As a non-profit serving Louisville, the ACE (Academy of Child Entrepreneurship )Project strives to be a positive resource for school-age youth. The services they provide include mentoring, tutoring, and educating youth on violence, destructive behaviors, and conflict resolution. One program borne from ACE’s mission is called “Men in the Making”, where young men can connect, grow, and discover their potential in a safe and empowering space. “Men in the Making” further aligns with ACE’s mission to address gun violence and trauma by equipping youth with essential tools, mentorship, and unique opportunities to break negative cycles and build positive futures for themselves and their communities.
Continuing MLK’s Legacy
This past MLK Day, volunteers came together for a volunteer day to refurbish a space that will serve as a hub for “Men in the Making”. The effort was a true community undertaking, with 43 volunteers stepping up to lend a hand despite icy conditions. Among them were youth, parents, and community members, all bringing incredible energy and dedication to the project. Preparing the space for its transformation was no small feat. Volunteers dedicated their time and energy to clean and prepare the area. Tasks included wiping down walls, clearing out trash, and cleaning floors to set the stage for a fresh coat of paint and a brand-new look.
Creating Lasting Community Impact
The newly refurbished space will serve as a hub for mentorship and skill-building programs. It is designed to provide young men with the resources and support they need to succeed. Here, they will feel seen, heard, and valued while developing tools for both personal and professional growth.
The impact is already being felt. One parent present for Volunteer Day shared how their son eagerly looks forward to attending “Men in the Making” sessions, often rushing him out of the house to get there on time. Another expressed deep gratitude, saying, “My child has grown so much. I can’t thank the ACE Project enough.”
Collaboration Makes It Possible
The success of this project wouldn’t have been possible without the help of several dedicated community partners. Organizations such as Ten Talents, Middletown Christian Church, and Moms Demand Action provided hands-on support throughout the process.
A special thanks goes out to Northeast Christian Church for their generous financial donation, which played a pivotal role in acquiring the space and bringing this vision to life.
The ACE Project is excited to continue expanding the program and nurturing the next generation of leaders. Through the “Men in the Making” project, we are reminded of the incredible potential of young men when given the right tools, guidance, and opportunities. Together, we are building a brighter, more connected future—one step, one space, and one story at a time.
