At the Ten Talents Foundation, it’s our mission to forge meaningful partnerships with non-profit organizations across the Louisville area, with the ultimate goal of empowering them to expand their reach and more effectively fulfill their objectives. One such partner is the Galilee Community Development Corporation (GCDC), a mission-driven organization devoted to uplifting and transforming the lives of local residents through an array of impactful programs and initiatives.
At the heart of GCDC’s mission is a deep commitment to empowering youth and providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed. Their robust outreach efforts include after-school tutoring, one-on-one mentoring, and an immersive Summer Academic Camp that keeps students engaged and learning all season long.
The GCDC Summer Learning Academy, located at 3918 West Broadway, is a hub of activity and enrichment each summer. The day begins with an energetic morning dance party to get students motivated and ready to learn, followed by daily affirmations where they affirm their own power, focus, and drive. Students then dive into academic lessons and coursework, building key skills and knowledge. The GCDC also plans exciting field trips and extracurricular activities to expose their scholars—as participants are called—to new experiences. Over the course of the 8-week camp, scholars can participate in activities like a tour the Muhammad Ali Airport, riding horses at Jesse James Riding Stables, and even visiting an HBCU college campus to get a taste of higher education. They also participate in specialized programs like robotics, coding, and martial arts, allowing them to explore their interests and develop new talents.
In addition to educational outings, the GCDC has incorporated innovative new initiatives into their summer programming. “GCDC BizTown” and “Entrepreneur Wednesdays” give students real-world business experience, with visits from local entrepreneurs, small business owners, and even state representatives. These interactive sessions allow the young scholars to learn crucial skills like financial literacy, marketing, and leadership. It’s all part of the GCDC’s holistic approach to empowering youth and preparing them not just for the next school year, but for future success and community involvement.
In November, the GCDC opened a new pavilion in West Louisville. Once an old service station, the location now provides space for youth to access sports opportunities, fresh food and economic empowerment. The pavilion also offers workspaces and classrooms, providing a valuable resource for local residents.
Through their tireless efforts, the Galilee Community Development Corporation is making a tangible difference in the lives of local students and families, transforming their community one child at a time and The Ten Talents Foundation couldn’t be prouder to partner with them in their mission!
